To use a classic quote from 'Antz' - "I almost know exactly what I'm doing!"
Hmm, photograph it; now that's a novel idea. After spending all morning shovelling it and 'snowblowing' it to the neighbor's yard one doesn't want to stand around in -9C temp, with a camera, to further freeze one's butt. Perhaps the next snowfall, if the temp is a bit warmer, I will give it a try.

The rest of it tasted OK too!
Original background a mis-match of greys (or grays) so matted in pure black.
Nothing special in the lighting, single flash and foam coffee cup as a diffuser (just love those foam cups, only a few $$ for about 20).
Adjustments include: levels, curves and USM. It seems that curves, to increase contrast, and USM always results in an image with more 'punch'; also I think the black background adds to the effect.
Aynia: Irish weather here this am, +9 C and raining; this time yesterday it was sunny and -17 C.
