What is this Schneider?

I'm curious about this lens, maybe I should be, maybe I shouldn't be?

Hello Craig, and thank you -

I just went ahead and bought one of them myself (2 left). I already have a 28mm fixed f/4 aperture Componon in a similar finely threaded mount. I haven't been able to find any information about it, but think it was used for some machine vision application, or possibly in a photo minilab. I ran some tests with it reversed at 5X last weekend, and it performed very well.

Hi David,

Somehow, I just pressed the 'Buy It Now' button too..... :smt017 must be the 40 degree day we are having here?

I had been looking at if for about a week. There was also a Rodenstock Rodagon 1:5.6 f=31mm up there but the last one sold this morning.

I only have one piece of Schneider-Kreuznach glass - the huge Betavaron.

I would be willing to bet its a lens for a microfilm reader or reader printer.

The mount looks similar to them. They never have adjustable diaphragms.
They are designed for particular magnifications and distances and at those specs are very good indeed.

It could also be a process or copier lens

Craig, I haven´t seen such a Componon yet, and think that the others already mentioned what it could have been used for. I have a similar Schneider lens that isn´t a Componon, but has such a longer thread and retaining ring, and it definitely is a machine vision lens. The long thread and retaining ring are meant to position the lens in the respective technical assembly where it then would stay fixed.

Have you put the Betavaron to a test yet? A brick of a lens that is, wouldn´t want to drop that one on my foot! :)

edit typo: definetely to definitely

And another potentially useful Schneider lens:

It looks a little scruffy in the seller's picture, but he has a 30 day return policy.

Thanks Gene,
It will be an interesting exercise to see how this lens performs.

Betty, thankyou for the insight regarding the Schneider.

Yes, I have used it on various occasions; but have not done any serious testing or comparisons with other lenses. It is a useful lens to have on hand (not foot).

David,

Thankyou for the link to the 4/35.

Did you receive an email from the seller advising that he has more of the Schneider-Kreuznach Componon 1:5.6 f=40mm ?

If anyone buys those Schneiders and does not want the C mount adapters I would be happy to take them off your hands for my ring box.

If anyone wants to join the Three Muskateers (you know who you are) in making a purchase, then the seller has listed more of these items.

Well, that makes four of us.

If the lens is not up to the job, then at least we have enough to outfit a small table with a sufficient number of legs.

I've heard of telescopic legs but microscopic? :)
