Here is a sequence from my recent preoccupation with spittlebugs.
This one is the next size up from my "Bubble Bath" specimen, about 3mm or less. It obliged by demonstrating the process: walking around on the leaf, it found a place to build its hiding place. In the first image you can see the juice running down from the rear end; then bubbles are produced with vigorous beats of the abdomen, 1 bubble per beat, at 1-2 beats per second.
