Mesembrina meridiana Muscid fly stack

Post by lauriek »

I think this is a very handsome fly, Mesembrina meridiana a muscid fly, also known as the 'noon fly'.

I've just "learned" a new UK fly species. I don't recall seeing this one. A handsome beast.

Unfortunately, the colour saturation of the first one has been partly lost.

That's very interesting! I was curious as to whether there would be a difference noticed... The first shot (which I actually shot second) was the first attempt on my part to use Adobe RGB 1998 colour space right through my image processing, from shooting through to jpeg output... I wonder if I missed a step somewhere, or if this is the normal result.

Harold, are you using a browser which uses embedded colour profiles in images? (Firefox 3 can do this but I don't think does it by default, you have to turn it on manually).

I use Internet Explorer.

Those antennae can only be of a fly.

For some reason, this fly strikes me as "Mean" looking. It must be the color combo and the hairs above the mouth region. Other than that, it is a great photo of a fly of a different color.
