I found this in some pond water from a local pond. Don't know what it is yet, but it looked interesting.

Any thoughts?

Hi (what's your name again?)

those are plant hairs, so called star-like trichomes. Look here:

I have seen a number of the these things myself. They seem to appear all over the place. Even on glass slides that have been left out in the open and have collected dust. I was puzzled about them too at one time. :D

Hey thanks... This is just too fasinating.

My handle is actually Pegleg, but I added the OS from the International virtual fishing club I formed about 5 years back. Outdoor Sims.

Seems like someone else is also using Pegleg. I have a bad leg, and now use an electric wheelchair to get around.

When I see them, I just thought they were some parts to some plant that fell into the water. They were just something else interesting to look at. Know they have a name...thanks :smt023

Hello Bernhard,
I also thank you on the identification. I ran a year long experiment recording air samples with a home made device and captured hundreds of these. I was often asked what they were and didn't even know where to begin looking.

You should check these things out under crossed polarizers, they really "glow".
