I kept a Mantis as a "pet" for a while. A wasp I dropped into the terrerium was made short work of. Once I tossed it a fairly large earthworm.
The Mantis finally got the best of the worm, but for a while the battle was reminiscant of the statue of Laocoon! (Google the name if you aren't familiar with the myth.)
I hand fed the Mantis water from a thin straw. It was always accepted peaceably.

I do not remember the story accurately, but immediately visualized bearded man wrestling with snake.

I know of the story and the associated art work. Some say the youngest one lived, others say they were all devoured. I can picture the mantis and the worm in this regard  _________________ Sue Alden |
