Dragonflies

Post by Jbailey »

Here're two dragonfly photos I took a short while back. The subjects made no effort to fly away. I guess they either get more tolerant or just plain tired. At times I can coax them to land on an outstretched finger.

Lovely details, a little hot on the underside of the second but still a wonderful shot. The "hot pink" spot in the first, well I am not sure of. Seems to complement the subject but then again, I don't know but to each their own, eh? Could be a nice touch depending on how one looks at it. :D

Nice photos. I love when the dragonflies have banding on their wings.

The wing details on the second one are just great!

Fine pictures of male Sympetrum obstrusum (White-Faced Meadowhawk) and female Celithemis eponina Halloween Pennant.

Perhaps the White Faced MeadowHawk is what was swarming around here a few days ago.

Thank you for your I.D.'s and comments. Dragonflies are fun to photograph once they get into a slowing down mood.
Its more luck than just technique to get enough depth-of-field to catch a lot of wing detail. I also took many shots of each to get the ones seen here.

It's good to hear from someone in Denmark. Years ago. I frequently traded mineral specimens with a geology student in Copenhagen.
