Found this guy lurking behind some bushes:

He had sort of a fan on his head going a mile a minute. There was some worms, I think around him and one was hitting him in the rear. I thought that was kinda rude. :wink:

What you have here is a rotifer. Antoni van Leeuwenhoek described these in the 1600's. They were often called "wheel animalcules" because the cilia used for feeding move in a wave-like motion so that it looks like a wheel (or as you have described---a fan).

This is fasinating stuff. I do believe I'm hooked now. I need to do a lot of work on idendification and technique, but I'm loving it. I haven't had my telescopes out since I got the microscope.

I've a long way to go, but, with the help of you guys, I'll get the hang of it.

Yes sir....you will learn a wealth of great info here PeglegOS. I was reading every post for a year before I even posted my first picture.
