Wild poppy stems

Post by Aynia »

A few months ago, I dug a patch of garden with the view to sowing wildflowers.

Here are a couple of poppy stems from last week. They haven't flowered yet. Both taken within a day or two of each other.

Tech data:
Olympus e510, 35mm macro, f9, 1/100sec, iso 400
Hand held - available light. Rotated - because I liked it better sideways.

I think they are the same stem. Lots of poppies coming up.

You really got in close on this. Depth of field can be difficult at such magnifications but you did well I think. :D I don't recall as ever having actually seen a poppy, seen lots of photos of them though. :-k

The poppy (only a couple of them in bloom at the moment and lots more to come out), came from a couple of wildflower seed packets which didn't list all the seeds.

However I'm pretty sure it's a field poppy/Flanders poppy/corn poppy - Papaver rhoeas. I'll take a pic of the some of them in flower in the next day of so.

The ones that are out (including the ones in the photos here) are red. There may be yellow/golden ones in the mix.
