40X objective. I had a very close call on this objective yesterday. I was setting up a chip for oil immersion and got distracted and didn't rotate the 100X oil into position. Instead, my 40X NIKON got an oil miniscus. Cleaned it right away with Xylol and a number of different lens cleaning solutions and now it is back.

Probably setting myself up for a fall, but I've managed to avoid that particular accident.

You're getting some great resolution and sharpness with that oil objective. Makes it worth the extra setup and cleaning, eh? For a while at least... :)

Oil Objective

Post by Olympusman »

Oil immersion was uncomfortable to me for a long time. But now that I have set up a routine for the cleanup it isn't that difficult. I rinse the chips off by swirling them in Xylol in a jar. As for the objective, I always remove it from the scope, stand it on the threaded end and put a drop of Xylol on it to remove the oil, wipe it with a lens tissue and clean it again with another drop of Xylol.
