Grease for a dovetail track

Post by Olympusman »

I'm restoring a UNITRON inverted metallurgical microscope. As part of my restoration process, I degrease all the parts in naphtha. Now, when I test it I get serious focus creep from the stage. Can anybody suggest a nice thick grease to put in the dovetail tracks to stop the focus creep? The scope does not have a provision to set the focus drag.

Thanks

Mike

Dow Corning 111 is thick, cheap, and basically a decent heavy damping grease. It contains silicone, so keep it away from the optics. But should be safe to use there.
