Need Help Identifying Turbellaria

Post by Robert Berdan »

If anyone might know the identity of this Turbellarian would appreciate it.

In an older book on Freshwater microsopy there is a similar BW photo - the author identifies as Rhincomesostoma a free living Turbellarian similar to Dalyellia.

However I can not find a reference to this animal in the keys or books I have or on the web for that matter. If there are any flat worm experts out there I would appreciate your help. Alternatively if you can recommend some good guides on Turbellarians that would be appreciated.

Flatworm identified by Expert

Post by Robert Berdan »

I had an expert Dr Ronald Sluys identify the Triclad as most likely to be
Mesostoma ehrenbergii. I followed up and it looks like he is correct though
he pointed out the most flatworms need to be sectioned to observe their sexual organs.
