Blob on hoverfly's eye

Post by Beatsy »

I've seen this a few times, but this is the largest lump of goop I've encountered attached to a fly's eye. It's firmly stuck and I couldn't move it while picking off other detritus. I thought it was just a blob of pollen, but not so sure now. It's very well anchored in place. Could it be a mutated "growth"?

Shot with 10x Mitty onto full frame. FoV is about 2.6mm wide.

Don't know about the "blob" but, to me, it looks like a very doleful cod with panniers.

Maybe oozed hemolymph. I am sure you could digitally remove it.
