Tortoise beetle mother displaying parental care of larvae. She will defend the vulnerable larvae, from potential parasitoids and predators and whilst herding them from leaf to leaf, which they consume with ever-growing appetites.

Mocagua island is evidence of the power of the Amazon river, regulated by snowmelt from the Andes, its ebbs and flows eroding river banks and creating new islands which emerge and submerge, their brief lifetimes populated by incredible species richness, before they fall back under water, or are shorn downstream by the torrential flows.
