Good to see flowers here. Beautifully done; great detail, strong colors, and I particularly like the smooth out of focus green background. Thanks for posting. |

Thanks for the comments Leonard.
For this flower, I had a reasonably well defined picture in my head. But the execution was not that straightforward, for me anyway.
I started with 'extreme' macro in 2014 somewhere, a 'normal' development after many years off 'normal' macro I guess . Haven't shot much ever since due to unforseen circumstances, and picked the 'extreme' macro up again a few months ago.....so a lot to learn.... _________________ Always looking at the bright side of life,

Very nice.
Well composed, wonderful colors and details - and a story of development. _________________ Troels Holm, biologist (retired), environmentalist, amateur photographer.

I wondered about this unusual-looking flower and looked it up.
I was surprised to see it's one of the dead-nettles , which are very common in the wild.
I shall look closer next time! _________________ Chris R |

Chris,
Yes, it is indeed a Lamium purpureum.
That is a flower I know very well. But is is surprising how difficult it is to recognise, when you are used to identify mainly by size, growing place and shape of leaves.
I have never looked so close before. More to learn. _________________ Troels Holm, biologist (retired), environmentalist, amateur photographer.

It seems I have been a bit 'absent' ...
I walk with my head closely to the ground lately...so those Purple Dead Nettles are easy to spot....
Due to the very mild winter they are already flowering abundantly..
As soon as my setup is more 'stable' I try some close-ups from stamen with pollen.
Who knows what I will find next..
Thanks Troel, ChrisR, Lou and Sumguy for the continued comments. Really appreciated. _________________ Always looking at the bright side of life,
