Leitz Microflash Unit

Post by Photomicro »

In amongst the gear from a friend I am sorting out, are two Microflash units. The Zeiss one I am quite familiar with, being the sort that fits into the aperture base of a Zeiss stand, be it GFL, WL or bigger.

The other is a Leitz unit, with a bayonet fitting like fits on the Orthoplan. However, despite some web reaches, I cannot find any reference to it at all, never mind any literature describing its use.

If there are any Leitz users out there who do have some knowledge of it I would appreciate your input.

Thanks, Mike

(when it is daytime again, I will take some pictures of it)

I have 2, one for the Orthoplan and one for Ortholux 2; Aristophot.
They both take a small Metz flash head, and use a half reflecting mirror for lamp / flash paths

Here you have the links to two very different Leitz microflash devices. Choronzon's description matches the first type

Thanks Pau, yes, as you may have suspected, it is the first one.

Having the documentation is incredibly useful, especially as I shall most likely end up selling this on behalf of the widow. I feel uncomfortable not knowing a bit about things, especially if folk ask questions.

Many thanks.

If you post some photos, I can give you more information.
There are 4 Leitz types and 3 Zeiss types

It is a Sunpak Auto 30DX flashgun that is attached.

Many thanks.

That's a type 3 for the Ortholux 2 and all other microscopes that use the small bayonet lamp house. What did you modify the mount to?

I didn't, I merely took the bayonet 'sleeve' off to find to my amazement that it fits onto my Nikon Optiphot (with it's lamp lens removed). Works quite well too.

BTW, in that mauls you sent the reference to, it is a little vague about the adjustment possible (a slider) for the flash side of things. I assume this is to ensure the flash tube isn't in the image, but the manual is not very useful at all here.

Type 3 eh...and I have struggled to find any reference to it at all.

I like your quote at the end of your messages (signature).

Mike
