European Hornet Vespa crabro
And in gray scale...
The photography setup
This was shot on an antique Durst copy stand which I recently had to rewire since the insulation on all the wiring had turned to some kind of gooey substance.
The insect was shot under hot lights with an Olympus D-300 digital SLR with a 35mm Four Thirds Macro lens set at f11 and in Manual Focus mode.
The specimen was lain on a plate of glass suspended above the background paper. The corners of the glass are held up with Fujifilm 35mm cassette canisters. This permits shadowless photography since the shadows are projected away from and below the subject.
The lens was rotated shot-to-shot in the Manual Focus (MF) mode to capture a series for focus stacking.
Just wanted to offer my technique so another guy won't have to reinvent the wheel.
Regards Mike
