This poor bugger was perched on a chair on my back porch - eventually, I put a little container over him, but that didn't phase him one bit. A little nudge got his full attention though! I put the container in the fridge, and he slowed right down, but wasn't dead. I had to cut this stack short due to leg motions...
36 images ISO 100 1/30th sec. Nikon D3300 APS-C with two gooseneck LEDs + off-camera flash. Zerene DMap with a little retouching on his left front leg (even the 36 exposures had some movement...) Very minimal post-processing (auto-exposure and light unsharp mask) including a crop.
Schneider Componon S 100 mm on bellows - not reversed. (Just ordered the 80 mm version, yeah!) Focus stack done with entire camera setup on a linear micrometer stage.
And a crop of a 50% sized version.
Weird angle, I guess... only one ocellus is plainly visible.

if you are a cicada, you shouldn't fall asleep on my porch!
