What Is It? Part 2

Post by Deanimator »

Found this on the same garage door, next to what I think is a damsel fly. It looks like the remains of a damsel fly.

It looks very worse for wear, but not very old.

Did something kill it and eat the head?

Similar parameters to the previous picture.

I wish we could see the whole animal. It looks as if it has som appendixes on the hind tip of the abdomen, but only a tiny part of it is visible.
From the way the legs are positioned, the color and curvature of the abdomen and the (supposed 2 or 3) appendixes I think it looks very much like a mayfly (Ephemeroptera).

But it does not look as if it is eaten. It has fixed its legs in that position and it looks as if it has broken out of its envelope. Some species of mayflies have a speciel stage between the larvae, living in the water, and the adult, mature mayfly. It is called Pseudoimago. It has a short duration and the mature adult breaks out of its cuticula, flies away and is ready for mating (many adult mayflies do not eat at all).

This could be the empty subimago skin of a mayfly.

I do believe that to be the case.
