Shooting stick

Post by davholla »

I often travel by public transport to places where I take photos and weight is a major factor. So I am thinking of getting a shooting stick as a light weight support for macro photos, any ideas?
It is lighter than my MPE lens so won't make much of a difference

Sounds good. I did not know about these things. I always use a long wood pole, about 1.5cm across, as a support stick. I grip it with my left hand and rest the camera on my hand. This works very well and has minimal fuss since adjusting the height is just a manner of moving my hand. I suppose one downside is that the hand used for resting is not entirely free to work controls. Only partially free.
Since I sometimes have to pack it into a small car trunk, I have cut it into two sections which are sleeved together with a length of pvc tubing.
Your idea here is still very good though, and I do not know which would work best.
