Some crab spiders I photographed last spring. It was a bit of a windy day, and I noticed whenever the wind blew, the spideys curled up their legs, and only re-posed when the wind stopped.
The gents:
and the ladies:
Technicalities:
* Taken with Nikon D800 + 2X teleconverter + 105mm Macro lens
* Lighted with Nikon SB-900 + lame looking homemade diffuser
* All handheld shots
* No stack except the second one - stack of 2 (eyes & legs)
* Did some cloning on the first shot because it was a little bare
And I found their eyes a bit comical...

Thanks for looking & commenting Mark. Now that I've learned about stacking, I'm hoping to get a second shot (pun intended) with these critters next spring.MarkSturtevant wrote:Good! I especially like the last one.

Hi Leonard, thank you for looking & commenting. I think I have to mention that the sharpness did get somewhat affected with the addition of teleconverter, but (in my eyes) not mayor enough to turn me away & easily compensated during editing.leonardturner wrote:Really a nice pair of images! I would not have thought that this combination of lens and converter would yield such good results; I'll have to give it a try.
(Incidentally, while admiring your image a spider who apparently lives around here rappelled down my screen--startling).

Thanks Anvancy. I've since learned so many new things from this site, and am keen to try my newfound techniques on these critters next springanvancy wrote:Beautiful photos.
First one is my favorite.

That diffuser is so tacky, I've had so many photographers approach me for a chat during my macro hunt. Though I'm now leaving that design behind, not because it looks lame , but because I'm revising my lighting system (I want to use 2 flash units instead of 1). Let's see what happens. Thanks for looking & commenting.Yawns wrote:The diffuser may look lame but's very efficient.. I don't see any hard shines and you have a lot of textures in the white petal, and that's always a challenge...
I also noticed their eyes look funny (cartoonish)
