Amsinckia (fiddleneck) immature

Post by mtuell »

The genus Amsinckia can be difficult to narrow down to species, but I think we have here in Tucson A. Tessellata and A. menziesii. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsinckia

My 8 year old son pointed it out and said "Hey Dad, that's fiddleneck!" So, I brought a little home. This is young - the flowers are just barely coming out and the spines are soft.

Here is a PMax stack with 5x BD darkfield.

And cross-eyed stereo:

And, while it should go in the macro section, I thought I would just continue this post with a 2x Edmund LWD (Mitutoyo clone) stack.

As usual, larger versions and parallel stereo are on my site.

(Dang that kid!)

That's a cool looking plant. It seems well armed against intruders with all the spines
