A couple from the garden

What do people think about the contrast in these? A lot of people have said that my photos have a problem with contrast and thanks to someone on a different forum, I wonder if it could be because my monitor's contrast was out.
I am not sure if I have fixed it 100% as these photos look a lot darker background on my PC than my smart phone

The beetle may be a tiny rove beetle in the genus Coproporus or Sedeophilus. Not sure. You can see them in Bugguide.
Both are very small, and getting good pictures of the really small is probably extra difficult. Anyway for the beetle you do have substantial areas that are basically black. You would want to fill in with more light. Whatever diffuser you are using you need more. A big, curved diffuser is best, but of course you have to experiment.
