Beautifully captured. I like Navicula - always a neat and tidy diatom, but often a pain to id to species level.

That last one is an interesting illumination. How exactly are you producing it? Is it a phase objective with a mismatched phase ring, or a phase objective with a classic dark ground stop?. It certainly looks like Navicula lyra to me BTW. Is the slide not labelled?

Beautiful image. ....was just wondering: we do not get to see its side view very often because of its shape/ centre of gravity. :?:

I'm having 'several issues' that I'm unable to solve but that's another story, so I may not be able to tell you my specific setup. I was told that any objective labeled 0.65NA or less would work with my Nikon 1.25 condenser in DK mode. So since I only have a limited selection of objectives I experimented using a Meiji Phase DM 40x/0.65 with my condenser set to DF.

The slide is not labeled. That being the case I simply tried to find a match in the Schmidts Atlas. That itself was an interesting adventure but I don't mind.
