I had some fun reading this blog:
https://dinosaurpalaeo.wordpress.com/?s=tutorial

For the murex model it was important to have a uniform diffuse background for masking. I used white paper.

A 3D model of a murex (Siratus alabaster).

Post by JH »

This is another 3D model of a murex (Siratus alabaster). The fine almost transparent ridges is almost impossible to do correctly. For this model I used 199 single photos, Canon 100mm macro. I tested a lot of different settings and took several different sets of photos with different backgrounds. In the The final processing (more than 8 hours) the ridges finaly came out looking OK but it is not a correct representation of the actual apperance. There was some missing areas resulting in unnaturally holes and edges - that I deleted.
