Antenna segment, termite

Post by Charles Krebs »

A year ago (almost to the day) I photographed a Pacific Dampwood Termite. At that time I thought the antenna were interesting. So when I found some fluttering around at dusk, I took a closer look at a section of the antenna. (Slightly flattened by the cover slip).

Olympus 20X S Plan Apo, Canon 350D, slightly oblique bright-field illumination.

Lovely! Do crossed polars show any obvious structure inside these things?

Aaargh! I wondered about that when I was doing the shot, but was too lazy to set up the upper polarizer... and now you ask! Actually the slide is still on the scope so I will check it out tomorrow.
