rotifer colony

Post by Wim van Egmond »

It's been a while.

This is one of my favourite rotifers. Conochilus, a colony. It should be a sphere but when you compress it a bit you can see the individual animals better. I saw Ralf also recently captured it. Nice!!!

I hope to post a bit more but I have little time. Lot's of projects, little time for microscopy.

Hello stranger!
It's good that you're busy with projects... but our loss here.

I think these are on just about everyones favorite list. So much fun to watch.

I came across one colony about three years ago. Haven't seen one since.

They certainly look good in dark-field.

Thanks!

Nice version you made, Charlie. they are funny looking organisms:) By the way, in my picture there were many little ciliates that lived in the mucus in the center. Perhaps they feed on it or seek protection. They couldn't escape my pipet, though!

I will do my best to post more often. I have been doing some insect photography lately, also some stacking. I finally tried to do some 3D stacks. It gives spectular results but it is a lot of extra work. So I don't think I will make many of them. :)

best regards,

Wim
