I've been "commissioned" (no payment involved) to take images for one of our plant propagation courses in the department. Today's subject are fern gametophytes. I know there is quite an extensive thread on lighting gametophytes and now I see why - though the cells are nearly transparent, they reflect a lot of light!

Ha!
To be honest, I didn't spend a lot of time futzing around with the lighting.
What I found that worked best was using one continuous LED light aimed away from the subject onto some Lee diffusion filters. The light that bounced off the filters was enough to light the subject in a relatively diffuse manner. When I initially tried aiming the light at the subject through the filters it was just too direct.
