Very nice stack, Saul. Great lighting and detail.

Saul, nice pictures. I like the light.
Do you diffuse the led light?

Nice but the transition from sharp to very out of focus is, at least to me, somewhat distracting. Rik and others have sometimes suggested using an iris and shooting a final frame with the iris closed down somewhat, to make a more gradual change from sharp to not sharp. I think such an image would look more natural.

Thanks Jörgen ! In this photo, LED light itself - no , just around the specimen.

Lou, thank you for your comment !
Yes, I do have iris in my lens assemblies:

and, depending on the situation, I'm using PS for the same purpose .

I don't understand this bit. Can you describe more fully?

Rik,
Sometimes I'm applying different levels of the blur on the different layers and masking the edge of the sharp/not sharp
Good example is :

I think I see. So, softening the transition by progressively blurring the end of the stack, instead of sharpening the background as the aperture would do?

Yes. And, depending on the situation, it helps to get rid of some stacking artifacts in the OOF zone.
