Gonium pectorale

Image
This is, I think, Gonium pectorale

The Freshwater Algal Flora of the British Isles, John, Whitton & Brook states that this species has a cell envelope usually containing 16 cells, with 12 around the periphery. The inset, at slightly smaller scale, shows a cluster swimming and you can just see the flagella

Microscope: Zeiss Standard GFL
Ocular: Zeiss Kpl W 10x/18
Objective: Leitz x40 NPL Fluotar ICT
Substage: Leitz ICT
(Differential Interference Contrast)
Camera: Canon Powershot S50/flash

Though we lean upon the same balustrade, the colours of the mountain are different.

This is a really nice montage, Graham. The inset does a great job of conveying to me what the overall shape of the colony is -- particularly with some of the flagella showing so clearly. Excellent!
