Two more dragonflies...

Post by twebster »

...from yesterday. It was 107°F in the shade, yesterday, and all of the dragonflies were in deep shade to escape the higher
sunlight temperatures. I would set my camera to give me a nice, sunlit background exposure but I used electronic flash to
light the dragonflies.

I used a Canon 20D + Canon EF 300mm f 4L IS lens + Canon EF 1.4x tc + Canon 550ex electronic flash to make these images.
Please note, when using the 1.4x tc on the 300mm lens the whole rig focuses plenty close without needing to add extension
tubes. All of these images are full frame top to bottom and cropped to 11" x 14" proportions left to right. All of the images were
made from approximately 5 feet. Cool :!: :D

Comments and critiques welcomed and encouraged. :)

Enjoy, my friends :!: :D

Tom, the Roseate is gorgeous. I've never seen one of these myself, and I envy you.

I agree with your position that the 300/4 IS is a superb choice for these shots.

WOW, what a vivid color on the first one. 5'.....that is an incredible range. Both are sharp as a tack and the backgrounds are very beautiful. Excellent Tom.
