dead flickr images?

Post by MaxRockbin »

I've been reading a lot of older threads and many of them apparently used inline flickr images that aren't supported anymore.

For example:
http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... highlight=

A flickr error gif is displayed instead of the picture.

Is it possible to do some kind of global replace on those postings to just put in a link to the flickr images on flickr (if they're still there)?

I may be misunderstanding the problem. I think this is happening because flickr no longer likes direct embedding of their hosted images.
If the images are simply no longer there...

The images are just not there anymore.

In the example you provide, both the image that you can see and the image that is gone are references to flickr:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8387/8597 ... c2fb_c.jpg (broken)
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8252/8598 ... ba4e_c.jpg (still works, as of right now)

Hi Max,

sorry to say NO ; the foto to be displayed needs exactly the descriptor used in a thread. There is no chance to use anything global. To get a unique Foto back , it has not to be hosted somewhere, it must be exactly at the place described in the former löcation without any aditional blank or dot .
Otherwise we would have a so called worthless chaos.

Yours Lothar

Thanks for the replies. I like the expression "worthless chaos." I know that's going to come in handy.

I think these show because there used to be a limit on # images per account. And once the limit was reached, if the person posted another then an old one is deleted.

Another way they show is if the person simply deleted the photo, or sets it to private.
