Wow -- that cyanotrichite is spectacular!

Switching subjects, I keep being intrigued by your signature. Are you ever going to tell us how your "manfrotto 454 but uncommon system" is set up? Exactly how is it uncommon?

I assume you're talking about the descriptions HERE and HERE. I find those hard to puzzle through. As you say, perhaps it's a language issue. But that's easy to work around. Just post a picture of your setup, over in the Technical Discussions forum, and I imagine things will be a lot more clear.

From the description so far, I think I understand that you're using a two-stage optical system, in which the objective forms a primary image in space and then you relay that to a secondary image on the camera sensor. Then you leave the specimen and objective in one place, and step focus by changing where the relay lens focuses within the primary image. Is that correct?

OK, thanks for the confirmation.

I'm sad to read that "An scientific french forum they mock about my system". This method of focusing is well understood and it works great within certain limits.

I would still like to see a picture of your setup. I think you'll find this forum to be very welcoming about innovative arrangements.

Thank you for the picture!

I have split the thread as we discussed.

Illustration and discussion of the setup can now be found here: Setup of Ploum.

Amazing as usual. You should have a very good network of suppliers providing you so many wonderful samples. I guess that all french minerals were actually collected by yourself.

- I collect alpins minerals and minerals from gard. For others cases, some people send me specimen or just rock by postal shipping.

- I cut rock and i prepare them in this case.

For others i find them in munich show for example..... or on inet minerals (online shop).
