List of contemporary macro/close-up photographers?

Post by Cyclops »

As part of my college project, A Beginner's Guide to Macro and Close- up Photography, I need a list of contemporary photographer.
So far I have Heather Angel, Stephen Dalton, Robert Thompson, Damon Clarke and our very own Rik!
Can anyone think of any more that are published\professional?

How's this sound Rik? ;)

My suggestion might be to research a bit more, google UK really isn't that helpful for a query like this. Some names: Alex Wild, Brian Valentine, Charles Krebs, Mike Moats, Thomas Shahan, Kurt Hock Ping Guek, Nikola Rahmé, Adrian Thysse, John Kimbler, John Hallmén, etc etc etc. I could go on, there are plenty more outstanding macro photographers and many of them are in this forum. And that's a list that barely includes micro.

Your problem is this - there are few "professional" macro photographers. Some work in industry and don't publish. Some do macro as only part of their portfolio. Some talk rather than do. Some teach. Some do well in photo sharing sites but aren't 'professional'. Some are amateur but have professional standards and have been published, be it online or in hard copy. Some self-publish. It's all pretty fractured and isolated, there's no 'top 100' list.

My extreme-macro.co.uk site, a learning site. Your comments and input there would be gratefully appreciated.

Well, I'm honored, but to tell the truth, that makes me twitch something awful. I'd characterize myself as a technologist, not a photographer, and certainly nowhere near the class of those folks mentioned by Johan. I haven't done journal publications for years, and none in this field. Everything I write is self-published, all of it informal, some of it still in the process of being figured out, and most of it in the form of postings here at photomacrography.net, where I help to manage the place but certainly don't own it.

Oh I was under the impression that you set up this site. So, shall I say moderator?

Yes, moderator is fine. And frequent contributor, of course.

The site was originally set up by Michael Keniston, Tom Webster, and Danny Young. They're described HERE in the older site contents, now archived as photomacrography1.net . I've been the lead administrator since Jan 2007 -- over 7 years now -- since Tom Webster had to pull back for personal reasons.
