Hi everybody,
My name is Enda Madden and as a new member, I thought I should introduce myself. I am a music photographer based in London, UK and I specialise in rock and metal live work. I shoot for a variety of magazines around the world and have recently discovered the lure of extreme macro. I have just built my first rig and am just about ready to start experimenting. My problem at the moment is getting hold of interesting specimens to start experimenting on. Any ideas on what I should be looking for and where? Also, any members here in South West London? It would be good to have a chat.
Anyhow, I look forward to learning from this great forum and sharing my results in due course. I will be very happy if I can be even half as good as many of the current members here.
Chat soon I hope. _________________ Enda Madden. |

Enda, welcome aboard! For extreme macro pretty much anything turns out to be interesting: fabric, plants, wood, small machined parts, trimmed paper on the edge of a book, halftone printing, inkjet printing, keycaps, old memory chips, piles of dust, food crumbs... (OK, I confess, I'm just looking around my desk while typing.)
It's the old line, "limited only by your imagination".
What sort of a rig have you built?

Hi Rik,
Thanks for the warm welcome and the good ideas. I will work on some of those. Regarding the rig I built, its a reasonably standard layout based around a Proxim table and a Nikon Plan Achromat with all the usual cobbled together bits :-).I will have a look at the image posting rules and post a photo of it. _________________ Enda Madden. |

No problem, I understood you anyway. The best place to put a photo of your rig would be down in Macro and Micro Technique and Technical Discussions.
By the way, this site permits everyone to edit their own posts for the purpose of correcting typos or mistakes. Just click the Edit button that appears at the upper right of your own posts.
It's a nice touch to include a note indicating the nature of the edit.
