dark radiolarians

Post by Wim van Egmond »

I finally have some time to do microscopy. I hope to post some new results soon, although most of the stuff I make now is movies. But I also have a lot of images that still need to be archived or have been archived but not posted. Just a pick from a deep directory.

This is from 4 years ago. I am not sure if I ever posted one of them. It's a series of radiolarians with a combination of darkfield and rheinberg so the shells are coloured. I also made a series of more than 80 images of radiolarians that were turned into a movie by morphing. A bit hard to put this movie on the web. It is 12 minutes and the movement goes very slow. So it is a bit boring. But I used it in an exhibition and it is almost like they are growing. It gives a meditative effect.

I fully agree with Betty but Haeckel would loved a bit more baroque image

Great work on a notoriously difficult subject to image well.

Thank you all. Of course these images were influenced by Haeckel. They are such amazing organisms. But it is funny to compare the images of Haeckel with subjects we know. Like desmids or rotifers. They are stylised. Perhaps it is the result of the translation into lithography. I am not sure if Haeckel did the drawings himself. Perhaps only sketches? The transfer to lithography was probably done by someone else.
