my first attempt at taking an image using a microscop

Post by michabir »

this is an image of a piece of omelet my son left on his plate
it is on x4 magnification on a bresser trino researcher with 550D camera.

i stacked ~10 images with zerene to make it.
i used a lamp from ikea for lighting.

it seems i have a LOT to learn before i can get decent images.
any comment will be welcomed

Welcome to the wonderful world of photomicrography!

A couple of suggestions to start:

1. Color balance. Be sure your camera is set to match the light source. This image looks very "warm", like it was shot with the camera on daylight while the lighting is more like incandescent. If possible, set custom balance from a white card before introducing the subject.

2. Use more diffuse illumination. Those small bright reflections suggest that your lamp was shining directly on the subject. Generally it works better to surround the subject with some sort of diffuser so that light hits the subject from a wide range of angles. Commonly used diffusers are thin paper and white plastic food containers.

3. Choose a subject that has clear structure. Wet foods often don't have fine detail or clear structure, so it's hard to tell whether the photo is good or not. Something like a dead bug or dried spices or seeds would be good to consider.

I hope this helps!
