I just dug out a box of old microscope bits that I have in the loft looking for something and I found the items below which I have no clue about what they are, they're obviously light modifiers/apertures of some kind but does anyone know what they might be off?
The adjustable one especially is beautifully engineered

Anybody know what these are?

Look like fixed aperture holes to me.
Are there markings on the flat sides of the knurdled rings?

This is the only thing I found to show its (possible) use:
So, not much to contribute what you already guessed I'm afraid ....
I hope the other parts in the box are of more use/value.
