As a user of Canon equipment I always had the ef-12 connected to the DSLR body when I'm connect the camera to my nikon bellows....

I have a Rokunar (= Kenko) 25mm extension tube with contacts to transmit the info between the EF lens and EOS camera. It works nicely with a Canon EF objective, but if I mount it on the camera without an EF lens (for exemple with a M42 to EF unchipped adapter) the camera shows an error message and locks. This occurs if the camera senses the tube but not the lens, and doesn't happen if I use the adapter without the extension tube.

Are you experimenting a similar issue with Canon tubes?. Do you use chipped Nikon to EF adapters with it?

Pau,

No, I'm not receiving any error messages or lock ups.

Yes, I used chipped Nikon to EOS adapters (high quality), maybe I need to use higher quality adapters; but would be curious to know more about the EF-12.

I'm also very interested to know more about the extension tubes. I'm using a Fotodiox Canon - Nikon adapter (the version without chip - very happy with it) without an extension tube on my PB-6 bellows. I didn't encounter any problems until now but I mounted a Nikon PK-12 tube on the bellows after reading this thread.

Is it PK-11A really neccessary or my PK-12 is enough? What's the difference between them?

What advantages do you see the EF-12 providing when attaching Nikon gear to a Canon EOS (apart from those already mentioned)?
Craig

Some of the reasons for me to buy the Canon EF-12 and EF-25 was:
- They were on sale at a Swedish Camera store to a good price.
- I wanted to be sure that the electrioncs worked proper between the DSLR and the EF lenses and they do that very good. I also tested them with the MP-E 65 and I can change aparture and so on.
- I also wanted the extension tubes close to the DSLR to have a good fit to avoid slack/jiggle in the lensmount.

The Canon EF-12 and EF-25 work great with my EF-lenses and both the 7D and 5DmkII.

I don't have so much Nikon gear at the moment to use with the EF-12/EF 25. The Nikon gear I use them with are my Nikon bellows.

As I wrote before I use the EF-12 to get some distance to the bellows mount and also as a precaution to not risk of harming the electronic connectors at the lensmount of the DSLR body.

I have not experienced that problem you mention here, I use a non chipped Nikon to EF adapter.

For M42 to EF I normally use a chipped adapter, but I have some non chipped I can make a test with.

I would love to have the Novoflex EOS/NIK adapter but it's out of my price range for the moment, when I have other more important things to buy to my setups.

I think you PK-12 is good.

The current Nikon series of extension tubes consist of a set of three: an 8mm PK-11a, a 12.5mm PK-12 and a 27.5mm PK-13* extension tube, plus the PN-11* extension tube. As with the lens reversal adaptor, the PK-11 extension tube is meant for manual bodies while the PK-11a extension tube must be used for all AF bodies with electrical/electronic contacts in the lens mounts.

*Note: The PK-13 is the standard extension tube for the manual focus 55mm AI-S Micro-Nikkor and the PN-11 is the standard extension tube for the manual focus 105mm AI-S Micro-Nikkor to achieve their full 1:1 life-size capability. On their own, the 55mm and 105mm Micro-Nikkors will only reach a maximum of 1:2, half life-size magnification.

Craig, could you help with the total height of the PB-5 plus A-S rail? I'm asking it because I'm curious if it'll fit in my Lowepro Flipside 400 bag as a future purchase. My Nikon PB-6 fits tight in vertical position without the rail and I measured its height at 135 mm.

Thanks a lot.

Cristian,

I've since sold the PB-5, but the sale was not due to any shortcomings of the unit.

Total height including AS rail is 135mm. The AS rail in the images is 8" (202mm in length).
