A friend of mine is selling this outfit. It has several amusing details.
In gemology horizontal scopes are used to do immersion observation and photography and this outfit would be handy for such use. The chin rest would be replaced with a platform for an immersion cell.
This unit has the Wild S Type sliding focusing mount. This allows the side with the camera (which can be set to either side) to be perfectly centered over the CMO (common main objective) so that you are not shooting half of a stereo pair nor at an angle.
It has a fiber optic/flash illuminator with locking arm holders for the end lenses. The illuminator has a flash built in but my friend tells me it does not work, but that it is not surface mount so it ought to be easy to repair.
Wild M3s are very sharp and contrasty. This is a step mag changer rather than a zoom. A zoom could easily dropped into the S type mount. (Two 2.5mm socket head screws) The zoom bodies regularly appear on fleabay.
The aluminum extrusion that holds the focusing rack would probably like a support crutch placed at its end closest to the operator. The design the way it was made would probably wobble but would be easy enough to fix.
I have known the seller from ebay and he visited me in St. Louis one time with his wife and child. A good solid regular guy. Safe to buy from.
I would buy this outfit myself but I already have too many scopes.
