Hello,
I have to say that I am very impresed with the quality of the sensors in the new high resolution nikon/Sony cameras; I have been always against high megapixel count but I have to swallow my words.

If you compare them against the 5D mkII the results are equally impressive

And if you compare the nex aginst the 18mpx canon APS-C sensor you can only feel sorry for canon

New Nex cameras have the EFSC feature, I do not yet know if it is completely quiet like in most canon cameras or has some vibration like in the EOS 60D

with the metabones NEX to EOS adapter you can even use the MP-E 65 on those nex, like Morfa suggested
We yet have to see if the new nikon D800 has this feature
Regards
Javier

I think the new Sony NEX cameras have a lot to offer for macrophotography and photography through the microscope. A current limitation for them is the lack of ability to shoot tethered, i.e. controlled from a computer. Canon especially really scores there.

Some apparent issues with the metabones adapter:

Sounds like they will be fixed soon, based on a superficial read of the article.

Cognisys sell a universal IR trigger so they can be used with the stackshot; no possible to control them via USB?Cactusdave wrote: A current limitation for them is the lack of ability to shoot tethered, i.e. controlled from a computer. Canon especially really scores there.
That is a pitty, because that feature would be very wellcome by that 36mpx sensor in landscape photography toocrisarg wrote:D800 doesn't have EFCS, no such option at least in the preproduction model I've played with.
The problem seems to be internal reflections, something we are used to deal with.DQE wrote:Some apparent issues with the metabones adapter
some floacking material should fix it.
I'm a Nikon user and most of my photography is not macro, so I'll get an D800. It will be interesting how it works for macro though, I'm thinking that lack of EFSC just requires more planning and care of the mechanical aspects of the setup. The live view has anyway improved a lot over earlier Nikons.
I am using Sony NEX-5 for photomicrography, and considering its price I am absolutely happy. The downsides - video is rubbish, but apparently NEX-7 has more to offer. Also, controlling the settings is hard as it has this awful digital interface instead of buttons, but again the 7th model might be more comfortable. But the worst part is the fact that you can't use flash slaves without a synchronizer which takes some time to find.
