Simply beautiful! I like the second image. I wonder what are the small granules within the chloroplasts? Maybe starch? If you would like a name for the plant I'd be pleased to take a look at it (just dry it out at room temperature and put it in the post to me). Best wishes, Des

Yes, leaf was just immersed in water.

I also think these small granules are some kind of storage grains.

I don't know the name of the species but I enclose macro image (hope it help to identify) and also more images of different looking cells.

Thanks Chris. I've been told on good authority that the granules are indeed starch grains. I'm afraid positive ID of your plant isn't possible from the images and would need some examination. However, initial guesses would be mostly Ceratodon purpureus (the small spikey plant) and a little Hypnum cupressiforme (the bigger stuff). There may be other small things mixed in. Best wishes, Des
