Heteropteryx dilatata, tarsus and claws

Post by Charles Krebs »

This is a picture of the front "foot" of a Heteropteryx dilatata, also known as the "Malaysian Jungle Nymph". This is a very large insect... about 5 inches from head to end of abdomen. I have a collected specimen where a leg had broken off, so I decided to take a look at the impressive claws.

Olympus 2X Plan Fluor, Canon 350D. Multiple images stacked with Helicon Focus.
