Spider

Image
In my recent activities with spittlebugs and reversed lenses I came across this tiny spider (about 5mm diameter between opposite toes). It was extremely cooperative, maybe asleep?

Super shot Paul. Spiders have very cool faces IMO.

Very nice!

By the way, I calculate the total width shown in this picture as less than 4mm -- even smaller than you estimated.

The 7D's sensor is 23.5mm wide, and your lens combo is giving at least 6X magnification (300mm/50mm), plus just a hair from the extension.

The result looks nice and clear -- this setup is working well for you!

Well noted, Rik! The EXIF data says that I was at 280mm; with this setting I now focused on a ruler and got between 3.2 and 3.4 mm of frame width (depending on how the focus on the lenses is set). Must have seemed a BIG spider after all those baby spittlebugs, all of 1mm or so.
