Arcella, encysted

Post by bernhardinho »

Hi folks,

especially in wintertime testacea tend to encyst. I found this Arcella in an old pond sample:

Hi Bernhard,

A really interesting and nicely detailed photo.

Not for the first time has one of your postings introduced me to a completely new concept (for which I thank you). However although it's been an interesting journey, so far I have been able to find out very little about the process of encystation.

Out of interest, I came across this website which contains quite a few photos of testate amoeba including one of an encysted arcella.

Sorry Bernhard, you're quite right the encysted testate was Bullinularia indica.

Oh, there you go, I overlooked that one. Doesn't show very much, does it?

I'm sorry, I don't have any hints on literature on testacea in English, all I've got is in German!

Im with Bruce on things being very interesting and new. You really do learn something new everyday here. I don`t know if you guys have seen the post on the PDF book for $4.00 US on microorganisms but I downloaded it and it has some fantastic pictures (100s of pages of photos)and information. check it out here. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... php?t=1370

Hi beetleman

yeah, this book is highly recommended. It is by one of our german friends and I probably was one of the first to order it.
