Using a cover slip, dry

Post by ChrisR »

Can I use a cover slip to hold a dry specimen down?
EG a moth wing or bee's knee tends not to be flat where you want it.
Would I be wasting my time to try to hold such things down with a slip, held by wax or tape or glue or Vaseline at the edges?
And under the cover slip. should I fill it with water, or something else?
The question was prompted by Charlie's recent pictures of mosquito wings.

Dry slip works OK if you don't mind compression on the high spots.

Adding water or any other solvent gives you a completely different picture, maybe you like it, maybe not.
