I find myself in need of a custom join-it-all-together plate, which will connect a Newport 460 XYZ block with a long arca-swiss style clamp.
Basically a slab of aluminium, 90 x 80 x 15mm, with four holes tapped 1/4" 20 to bolt to the Newport and two countersunk holes flush 1/4" to bolt to the AS clamp.
I would welcome suggestions of places to have this made (or offers to make it, along with projected costs). I can describe the specific hole positioning and spacing in more detail on request.

Don Wilson, the fabricator whose contact info is in the link in my signature below, makes this kind of thing for me all the time, and is happy to work long distance. The price is always reasonable.
Not to take away from Sonynut's offer, which is a good one. But if that doesn't work out for whatever reason, Don Wilson can take care of you. Depending on which stage it is, I might even have one in hand to show him (he's only a few minutes away from me). And if so, he's already made such a plate for this stage.

Sonynut, Chris, thanks for the replies. I'm working on a scale diagram.
I have both of the items in-hand (the RRS B2-Pro/L 80mm clamp I have had for a while, and the Newport arrived this morning).
I would probably want to order the requisite Imperial bolts at the same time. Partly because they are difficult to get over here in metric-only Europe and partly because the thickness of the adapter depends to some extent on the lengths of the bolts. |

1/4" x 20 is very easily available in the UK, as Whitworth or UNC.
Plenty on ebay too, e.g cap head screws. ("Allen bolts") |

Here is what I had in mind. The plate is 3.5 inch (88.9mm) by 80mm.
The four holes to attach to the newport are on one inch centres in the Y dimension and three inch centres on the X dimension and tapped 1/4" 20.
The two holes to attach to the RRS clamp are on 45mm centres and allow a 1/4" bolt to pass, with the bolt head flush once fitted. I don't know the diameter or slope of the countersink, it depends on what the bolt uses.
Similarly the depth depends on how long the bolts are.
For reference here is a drawing of the Newport 460 XYZ. The dimensions labelled A, B, C are 1/4", 0.5" and 1" respectively.
The base plate is 6.3mm deep and the countersunk holes seem to be for cylindrical-headed bolts with 7mm or less diameter of the bolt head.

... and I didn't know what lengths bolts come in. But thelink below indicates 1/2"bolts are widely available, should be right?.Or is that too long?
Thanks for the link. OK so I found some flush bolts that are 1/2" long including cap that look like they would suit (I don't kow anything about the grades of steel or the various specs). And the head on them is
Head Diameter
.531"
Head Height
.161"
Undercut Head
No
Head Angle
82°
Does that give enough info to cut the countersink for the two holes that attach to the arca plate?
The heads on the plain cap ones seem to be wider (3/8") than the countersunk cutout on the Newport .... checks ... no, should be okay.
Now to see what happens when I enter a French address and ask for shipping. Accepted, 'applicable' (but undisclosed) shipping will be added. Okay, hopefully I have bolts now. |

1/4 20 machine/allen bolt head is about 5/16'
your arca uses 1/4 20 bolts then ,correct? _________________ ..............................................................................

Yes.
More precisely it has a single central 3/8 hole, which I don't plan to use and is not indicated on my sketch, plus two 1/4 20 holes which I will use. These are on 45mm centres and symmetric over the 80mm length of the clamp. Which is why I made the adapter plate 80mm. |

Coolness!
Since the bolts there obviously fit, if you could let me know how much for the whole thing with the piece and the bolts and shipping to France. |
