Diatom test and marine sponge spicules

Post by Linden.g »

I've been putting my microscope through some test. The first image is a diatom test slide using an Olympus 40x S-Plan acromate with 2.5x photo tube lens. Its a 50% crop, 5 frame focus stack using Zerene Stacker. The second image is a marine sponge spicule prep I did from a sponge found in my marine aquarium. This time 15 frame stack. The third image is at 20x and is a single image using DIC at a"grunge setting" I'm not sure if using DIC in this way is frowned up, but it does make for an attractive image.

Very nice pictures indeed by any standard. The stacked spicules are delightful objects, and personally I like the colour from the DIC 'detuning' used in the last image.

Excellent images, I like in special the second one.
If it is a test, it's passed with the highest qualification!
