Its a distance-measuring setup, which happens to use focus stacking software (or rather, the image alignment part of the focus stacking software).
Correct. If it were being a focus stacking setup at the same time, there would be a second camera mounted above the microscope, in the spirit of THIS SETUP. But since the second camera would not affect the stage movements, I didn't bother to install one for these tests.
