Bumblebee on a Coneflower

Post by DavieR »

I was actually looking for hoverflies on a Coneflower but this Bumblebee appeared in the viewfinder. I think its a Common Carder Bee, Bombus pascuorum.

Image

Cropped to remove vignetting and about 1000px of the width.

That is one cracking shot ...made so because of the flower petals and excellent cropping:

I really like the pose and composition.

We're experiencing a flood of bumblebees right now, esp on our coneflowers. I'm inspired by your photo and hope to learn how to make better "face shots".

It is either just this bumble bee or this has to be the cleanest shot of a bumble bees "face," that I have ever seen. Good post. :D

Thanks all.

I love our Coneflowers - I find them photogenic.

For some very nice bee shots take a look at this guy's pictures - http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalantech/
